Writing Workshop (8 Week Semester)

Week 1: July 15 to July 21 (40/120 points)

  • This work must be completed by July 21 (11:59pm, EST).
  • By the end of the day of July 17, you will have been placed into a Writing Workshop Group.
  • Login to our class site inside Blackboard Learn.
  • Click on the link for the Writing Workshop Forum and find your Writing Workshop Discussion Group.
  • Post a message for your group:
    • introduce yourself to your group
    • share your KSU email address with everyone in the group
    • share a little bit (2-3 sentences) about your writing strengths and weaknesses: list two strengths and two weaknesses.

Notes:

  1. If a writing workshop partner fails to share anything by July 24 (11:59pm, EST), you are no longer obligated to work with that person (no points will be deducted from your grade).
  2. If you fail to participate in the workshop, to share things with your partners, by July 24 (11:59pm, EST), you will no longer belong to your writing workshop group and you will lose points for this assignment.

Week 2: July 22 to July 28 (40/120 points)

  • This work must be completed by July 24 (11:59pm, EST).
  • Share  your Essay One Google Document with the members of your group.  You must share the original document that you submitted to me!
  • Share the other essay you plan to revise (Essay Two or Essay Three), in its Google Document form.  You must share the original document that you submitted to me!
  • This work must be completed by July 27 (11:59pm, EST): In the Writing Workshop Forum, share your ideas for your Essay Four (roughly 300 words):
    • the book you are writing about
    • roughly 200 words of your thoughts about that book
    • the other works you are thinking of using (even if you are not sure how, yet).
  • Essay Four Help
    • In the Writing Workshop Forum, respond to your partners’ ideas for their Essay Four papers.  Provide them with suggestions, encouragement, and other help in developing their papers.
    • There should be at least 2 short posts (50-100 words each) by each group member, demonstrating a genuine discussion of ideas for developing the paper.

Week 3: July 29 to August 4 (40/120 points)

  • This work must be completed by August 4 (11:59pm, EST).
  • Essay Four Help (Continued)
    • Continue the discussion of  your partners’ ideas for their Essay Four papers.  Continue to provide them with suggestions, encouragement, and other help in developing their papers.
    • There should be at least 2 short posts (50-100 words each) by each group member, demonstrating a genuine discussion of ideas for developing the paper.
  • Help for Essay Revisions
    • In the Writing Workshop Forum, and on the actual documents (highlight the area and then Insert Comment), provide the following kinds of feedback for each of your partner’s  papers: suggestions for development, unity and organization — based upon the Essay One Revision directions and upon the other Essay Revision directions.
    • Do not correct grammar or formatting!
    • There should be at least 2 short posts (50-100 words each) by each group member, demonstrating a genuine discussion of ideas for developing each  paper—in other words, one post for each paper, at least.
