Rules & Advice
Rules
-
-
- If a writing workshop partner fails to submit work by a deadline: you
are no longer obligated to work with that person (no points will be deducted from your grade). You have the option of choosing to continue to work with this partner, but you are not required.
- If you fail to participate in the workshop, to share things with your partners by a particular deadline: you will no longer belong to your writing workshop group, and you will lose points for this assignment. (Your partners have the option of choosing to continue to work with you, but they are not required.)
- If you find yourself no longer a member of your assigned workshop group, at any time during the remainder of the semester, email me right away. Your email should express that you wish to try again to work with others. I will assign you to the Writers Block Party group, which will have slightly different rules and deadlines.
- It is possible to switch Writing Workshop groups. If you are unhappy with a group, you must stay with it for the duration of that particular workshop period, but you can request that I move you to another group for the next workshop period. Send me an email with your request, and I will do my best to accommodate you.
- If a writing workshop partner fails to submit work by a deadline: you
- On your group’s discussion page, comment often and with depth of thought! Two suggestions is the minimum number of comments required to earn a passing grade of C; if you want to earn an A, you should post more. Keep in mind, however, that it isn’t just the quantity of posts that matter; it is also the quality: one large comment of quality feedback might count more than three brief posts of low quality feedback.
- All due dates and deadlines are by 11:59pm, Ohio time, of that particular date!

Advice
-
-
- Pay close attention to deadlines (below)! Not all of these deadlines are on the Course Plan.
- Try to be patient with your partner(s); if they are late, let me know, and I will reach out to them for you to find out what’s going on, but you should also feel free to email them yourself. In other words, if they are late, you are no longer obligated to work with your partner(s), but please try to do so nevertheless.
- Do not work on a document that another partner has already worked upon! If there are only two of you, obviously this is not an issue. If there are three of you: Student A work on Student B’s essay; Student B work on Student C’s essay; Student C work on Student A’s essay. If there are four of you, pair off: Students A & B and Students C & D.
- If you find yourself no longer in a group, don’t give up. Let me know that you are still interested in trying to complete this assignment. I will try to put you together with other students who are in the same situation.
